    Smart City – what is it and who needs it?

    Smart City – is a concept that integrates information and communication technology for monitoring and managing of the city infrastructure. The main purpose of the concept is to develop modern, secure, economical, smart city with a high standard of living through implementing information technologies.

    Global migration and urbanization is changing not only the face of the modern city, but also its living conditions. Due to rapid population growth cost of urban infrastructure maintenance is rising, resources consumption is increasing, provision of public services is under pressure, that consequently entails decrease of its quality. All these and other problems can be easily solved with the help of information technologies.

    Technologies implementation into urban environment will assist inhabitants to use city’s resources more rationally, while saving their own money and time. Smart City is capable to transform city into comfortable, digital, progressive and innovative place of living by breathing new life into outdated infrastructure through smart monitoring and managing systems.

    Nowadays a lot Smart City projects been implementing. The vast majority of them are some separate solutions such as Wi-Fi benches, waste utilization services, video surveillance of streets, e-ticket for tourists etc. Nevertheless, city’s full-fledged transformation into Smart City requires an integrated approach and solutions which allows to solve city’s problems in different areas holistically.

    The primary areas which are need to be intellectually modernized are: provision of public services, management of the urban transport network and the real estate, energy and water consumption.

    Our company provides implementation of Smart City solutions based on these 5 pillars:

    Smart Energy — energy supply solutions and energy saving solutions. Provision of energy efficiency programs and integration of renewable energy sources, demand management.

    Smart Water — water resource management: modernization of water systems, monitoring of water consumption, ecological safety systems and flood management.

    Smart Buildings  are the buildings, in which all the engineering and information systems integrated into a single management system (BMS – Building Management System). Thanks to it the systems interaction is possible. For instance, the heating system can be prepared by the start of working day, the power of the ventilation unit can be managed depending on the temperature, the number of people in the room and air quality, automatic transition to an energy-saving mode when there are no people in the building, and so on.

    Smart Government  the use of information technologies for public services provision for a wide range of people and for work optimization of various departments.

    Smart Transportation — smart transport and logistic systems. Traffic management and monitoring, payments for road tolls, emergency response, smart parking, and integrated management of traffic lights, construction of “smart” logistics networks.

    Advantages which Smart City will bring:

    • remote centralized monitoring and management system of urban infrastructure;
    • improving the quality of life and safety of citizens;
    • enhancing the efficiency of urban economy;
    • improving the quality of services provided by municipal enterprises;
